About Us

Since October 2000, our family has managed every second of everyday to address Shelby's T1D.  It was a traumatic diagnosis to learn that our nearly 3-year-old daughter would suffer a disease without cure that could result in a cascade of symptoms that could take her life.  We had to learn to manage T1D, to give shots to replace the insulin her body could no longer make, to protect her against potentially high and low blood sugar readings.  But we had to do more.

In October 2001, we walked in our first Walk to Cure Diabetes to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  The walk was an empowering experience.  There were lots of families just like us dealing with T1D.  The JDRF was started by parents just like us determined to find a cure for T1D.  The JDRF has raised and directed more than $1 billion into T1D research that has brought amazing technologies and treatments to patients across the world, and potential cures closer to human trials.

In 2006, our family were screened by TrialNet, an international research efforts working with families of those with T1D to better understand how the disease occurs and progresses.  Three years after our screening, TrialNet researchers notified us that Scott, Shelby's father, had developed T1D at age 42.  With two family members suffering this disease, we are more determined than ever to find a cure.

That's why we are fully committed to JDRF One Walk.  Won't you join us?
